Faithful God

A month before my son turned one, I dreamt that I would give birth to a girl. So I believed that this was a promise to me that I was going to get a daughter. When that was going to happen, I didn't know, but I believed that God was faithful. A couple of months passed, and I find a positive pregnancy test. God came through with His promise in my dream, blessed me with a girl nine months later. Now looking at my daughter, as much as she makes me crazy, she is a fulfillment of God’s promises.

I believe one of the greatest stories of delivered promises is the story of Abraham and Sarah, told in the book of Genesis. God promised descendants as numerous as the dust. But Abraham questions how he can have that many descendants if He doesn't have a blood heir. “But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?” And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.”, Genesis 15:2-3. It’s easy to follow Abraham’s footsteps and question God when you don’t see a promise’s outcome. I recently was there, questioning God, you promised this, and it hasn’t happened yet. It is hard. You question if God is still holding to His promise.

In the very next verse in Genesis 15, God will reconfirm His promise to Abraham. “Then the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.” He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” verse 4-5. God will remind you of His promises when all hope feels lost.

These past few weeks, God has reminded me of the promises He has for me. He also taught me through different sermons and different people that He is faithful. His word will not turn to void, but it will be fulfilled in my life. Someone I was listening to said, “you will need to go into warfare with your promise because the enemy doesn’t want that promise to be fulfilled.”. Mark Batterson wrote a book called Circle Maker. The whole premise of the book is circling the promises of God in prayer. The promises that God had spoken over you, to bathe it in prayer until it comes to fulfillment. The enemy is trying to stop that promise from coming to reality.

Abraham had to wait till 100 years of age when He had Issac. That is a long time for someone to wait for a child, but God delivered on the promise. That Abraham will get an heir from his bloodline. From Abraham’s lineage, God fulfilled the promise of having descendants as numerous as the dust, which is the nation of Isreal. God is faithful, even when circumstances tell us otherwise. If you are waiting on a promise of God, keep praying until it gets fulfilled. Don’t stop; keep believing that God is good and He is faithful. God knows what He is doing.
