A few weeks ago, my husband and I bought my three-year-old son a picture Bible. We try to read him a story every day from it. If you ask him what his favorite story in the Bible is, Timmy will say, “The Sneaky Snake.” The sneaky snake story refers to the story of the snake in the garden. I don't know if Timmy likes the story cause it's fun saying the name or if it's genuine like to the story because if you ask him what it's about, he will say he doesn't know.

In the story “The Sneaky Snake,” the snake, was Satan in disguise, tricks Eve into eating the apple. The story is found in Genesis 3. “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.” (Verse 1-6) Now in life today, I feel like we are all like Eve. We get deceived into playing the tricks of life. We believe that what we want is good, but it's the opposite in reality.

In today’s world, there is so much deception around us. We fall into this trap of blaming the people around us for the deception when we should blame the ruler of this fallen world in actuality. As people are deceiving each other and we are quick to point things out, many are so burdened by the fallout. I start to wonder why I am not in the state of burdensome and weary as I read the newsreels. I begin to question God, “Am I human to feel such peace when the whole earth is in shambles?”. A few days pass when I finally get my answer, and He answers it twice to confirm it. “God allowed it to happen.”

God allowed the past year to happen. Things don’t happen unless God permits it. He has a plan for everything in the world. No matter what happens in the world, believe that God knows what He is doing. His peace will cover you in every situation you find yourself in, but only if you're him.
